1997: Jan Ullrich wins the Tour de France  
On July 27, 1997, the 23-year-old Jan Ullrich from Rostock was the first German to win the Tour de France. Ullrich, who was one of the Telekom team, was amateur road world champion in 1993 and came in second in the 1996 Tour de France.
