1920: First League of Nations Meeting  
Preventing war and preserving peace was the stated aim of the League of Nations which met for the first time on this day in 1920. The establishment of the League was one of American President Woodrow Wilson’s points for peace, part of the Treaty of Versailles, signed to mark the end of the First World War.
