1.9.1854: Engelbert Humperdinck (27.9.1921) |
 |
After completing his music studies in Cologne and Munich, Humperdinck travelled widely in Europe and became Richard Wagners assistant in Bayreuth from 1879 to 1881. He later lectured composition in Berlin. But it was his opera Hansel and Gretel (1893) which brought him lasting fame. The work combines elements of traditional folk music with strong Wagnerian influences. |
