13.11.1869: Helene Stoecker (24.2.1943) |
 |
The German feminist Helene Stoecker was in Elberfeld on this day in 1869. In 1902, having written her thesis "Art Conception of the 18th century - from Winckelmann to Wackenroder", she became one of the first female graduates in Germany. In 1905 she established the Association for Expectant Mothers and Sexual Reform, which also campaigned for the social acceptance of homosexuals. Having left Germany when the Nazis came to power, she lived in exile in the USA until her death in 1943. |
