30.7.1419: First Prague defenestration |
 |
Supporters of the reformer Johannes Huss stormed Prague City Hall and threw the Catholic councillors out of the window. As a result, Huss was burnt at the stake in Constance. The preacher had many supporters and 400 aristocrats wrote a letter of protest to the Constance authorities. The popular belief at the time that the world would end was fuelled by King Wenceslas IV, who was an inept ruler. |
