711: The Arabs conquer Spain |

July 19, 711 marked the beginning of the seven-day battle between the Visigoths and the Muslim Moors. King Roderich led the Visigoths and the Moors were headed by Djabal Tarik, after the Muslims had advanced from northern Africa into Spain. Following the victory of the Visigoths, the Moors initially settled in Gibraltar.
