1938: Leni Riefenstahl's "Olympia"  
Leni Riefenstahl's two-part film on the Olympic Games of 1935 was screened in Berlin for the first time on April 20, 1938. The International Olympic Committee had commissioned Riefenstahl to film the 1936 Olympics. The two films, "Festival of the People" and "Festival of Beauty," exalted Hitler's "propaganda sports festival": they functioned both as sports documentaries and as National Socialist propaganda.
