Italian fascist prime minister from 1922 to 1945, known as "El Duce." Mussolinis political career began in 1912, when he became a member of the Italian Socialist Partys executive committee. Ousted from the party in 1914, he went on to found his own right-wing party in 1919. His powers grew and he banned all parties except the National Fascist party. Mussolini was shot by the Italian resistance in 1945. |
