9.12.1901: Ödön von Horváth (1.6.1938) |
 |
Horváth was an Austrian playwrite and novelist from a family of Austro-Hungarian diplomats. Tales from the Vienna Woods premiered in 1931 and was followed a year later by Kasimir and Karoline and Faith, Hope and Charity. Unfortunately, his plays were banned when the Nazis came to power. His novel Youth without God (1937) featured impressions of that era. In 1938, he left Germany to live in Paris, where he was killed by a falling branch during a storm on the Champs-Élysées. |
