| 5.4.1794: Danton's execution |
 |
| Georges Jacques Danton was guillotined with 13 of his followers for trying to end Robespierre’s reign of terror following the First Coalition War of 1794. In 1790 Danton had co-founded the Cordeliers Club with Jean-Paul Marat and Camille Desmoulins. He joined the Paris city administration one year later, backing the revolution against the monarchy. He played a major role in the storming of the Tuileries. He became one of the most important French leaders, but incurred the wrath of Robespierre by heading the Committee of Public Safety (1793), which campaigned for more moderate policies. |
